Matching diamonds for diamond earrings is a different discipline than selecting a single stone for a pendant. A pendant diamond only has to look good by itself. A pair of real diamond earrings has to look good together, which means matching color, clarity, and most critically the cut grade because two diamonds with identical specifications on paper can face up differently depending on crown angle and table percentage. We grade our earring diamonds in pairs, not individually. Our Athens workshop sorts incoming stones into pair groups first and any diamond that cannot find a visual match gets redirected to pendant production. The reject rate for pair matching is roughly 15% of incoming inventory, which costs us but it means every pair of 14k gold diamond earrings we ship has been visually confirmed as a match under daylight equivalent lighting. Not just certified. Visually confirmed. Because certifications describe what a diamond is on paper. Your eyes describe what diamond stud earrings look like on your ears and those two things are not always the same.
